It was difficult to get any sleep that night but finally everyone but Cid had dozed off. Perhaps it was thoughts of his father that kept ruining his sleep, but at around midnight Cid gave up and went to the kitchen to get some water.
As he entered the kitchen he saw movement outside the window and crept closer, slowly pushing the curtains back.
It was the Bandersnatch. It was a small, mangy thing and it was limping on a bad leg. Perhaps that’s why it had taken to killing Chocobos. Cid saw it slowly approach the fake chocobo and sniff it. It didn’t attack. Then the Bandersnatch snuck back out the yard. He co

An hour so so later two Sephlings came into the workshop with their arms full of long yellow feathers that tickled their noses. Their brother was busy blowing up the biggest balloon any one of them had ever seen; it all but filled the entire span of Loz’ long arms.
“Great, jest put them there.” Cid pointed at the floor. “What do ya think?” He stepped back proudly from what appeared to be and if fact was a chickenwire exoskeleton of a chocobo. It was fairly lifelike, both in proportions and size.
Kadaj and Yazoo stared as their foster father took the balloon from Loz and attached it carefully as the main body of
Cid knew he could come across as a grumpy, gruff and generally unpleasant person to people who didn’t know him. He snapped at strangers, scowled at children, drank too much and people got on his nerves at the drop of a hat.
He was willing to bet a space rockets worth that the reason for his bad temper stood within arm’s reach right now and there wasn’t a damn thing he could do about it.
“Don’t ya look at me that way boy ,” Highwind senior didn’t meet his son’s eyes but his glare was doing a damn fine job trying to drill a hole in Cid’s shoulder. “Ya should treat yer elders with res

”Seatbelt on.” Vincent leaned in through the car window to ‘click’ the seatbelt safely into place. “And drive safely. No joyriding.”
“But….”
“Do you have your mittens? Beanie? Scarf? Woolen long johns?” He crossed his arms and glared, ready to detect any lie.
“The car has a heater!”
“But what if the car breaks down in the middle of nowhere and you have to walk home, hm? Did you think about that? Which reminds me, is your cellphone fully charged? You can call me anytime, you know. If there is any trouble.”

Necessity had forced the Valenwind to divided household chores fairly early in their relationship. Cid burned most things that wasn’t boiling water, so Vincent usually cooked. Vincent didn’t see anything wrong with an inch of dust and cobwebs for curtains, so it was Cid who wielded the mop. But when Valentine was out of the house, it fell on Cid too get dinner for three hungry adolescent boys.
”Alright boys, dinner’s served!” Cid rubbed his hands together as he sat down by the tables. “It’s hotdogs!”
This didn’t exactly spark the kind of joy he’d been hoping for. The

Blinking awake, Kadaj stared up at the familiar roof of his and his brothers room. His whole body ached as if his joints were dislocated when he turned his head to one side; the familiar scent of hair gel and explosives had informed him that Reno was sitting next to his bed, watching him with teal eyes. Outside the room he could hear the havy sound of captain Highwinds boots as they stomped nervously back and forth, and a still, dark prescence luriking in the outskirts of his mind told him Vincent was near, to. Reno smile

Stepping on Toes
In the end, it was inevitable that they would hurt one another. There were too many memories, too much resentment, too much pent-up paranoia, and far too much pain for it to go any other way.
Hurting each other was inevitable. It was all about what happened next.
“Yer broodin’ again.” Cid commented, leaning into Vincent’s space at the table. “Thought we’d worked through the broodin’ phase.
